Our all new CNG Flare Kit was created because of an identified need.
I received a call from a department that was on the scene of an accident with a CNG fueled vehicle, the CNG system was damaged and leaking and they were looking for a way to safely flare the cylinder. Due to local regulations and safety concerns they did not want to release it into the atmosphere. Since DOT typically doesn’t like leaking vehicles to be towed and the small leak would take a while to bleed off on it’s own, they needed a way to connect their propane flare to the high pressure CNG system and evacuate the tank.
Most Departments of Environmental Management have a three step mitigation option when it comes to working with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
1st – Direct Transfer. Physical connection of one tank to another with limited or no released product. Using the kits 5000 PSI Gauge pack with 1/4 Turn Valve and quick connectors you can monitor the remaining pressure.
2nd – Flaring, this kit provides two options to safely flare CNG using your existing propane flare.
3rd – Release to atmosphere
Our intent was to provide a kit that would provide the basic tools needed to fulfill steps 1 and 2, and not need the 3rd option. But if you do the Direct Vent Tip can be connected and full tank pressure can be vented to atmosphere as well.
What we’ve designed is a system that will allow responders to connect to multiple types of industry standard lines and fittings and safely manage the incident (with proper training). With our kit you will have the ability to connect to multiple styles of industry standard high-pressure connections and lines, reduce the pressure and flare it using a standard propane flare.

Options are a good thing
Option #1) CNG systems can have as much as 3600 psi which far exceeds the capabilities of standard propane equipment. With this kit you’ll be able to connect the CNG system to a regulator (without the need for an external heat source), reduce the pressure to a to a manageable 110 psi and flare it with your propane flare.
Option #2) Using the Direct vent Valve Assembly with a 350 psi PRD (Pressure Relief Device) you will be able to release higher pressure to your propane flare (we recommend our 1-inch propane flare due to the stability of the 4-legged base design). The PRD reduces the possibility of over pressurizing propane equipment when flaring CNG when the pressure is kept below the PRD activation pressure. FULL PPE including EYE and Hearing protection is required.

CNG to Propane Flare Kit. This kit is designed to provide a majority of the standard components needed to connect a propane flare to a CNG system.
PLUS, the kit provides the option of a pressure regulator that will reduce CNG pressure (3600) to a pressure that will not damage your propane system (110 psi). In addition to that, you’ll receive a “Direct Vent Valve Assembly”. This assembly allows the responder to connect to a full pressure system (3600 psi) to a standard propane flare and flow at higher pressures (up to 350 psi). This valve Assembly includes a PRD that opens up and provides an audible alert during activation. As soon as the audible alert is heard, the control valve MUST be shut partially down/closed to limit downstream pressure protecting the propane hose by activating and releasing excess pressure and providing a auditable alert (product release) indicating that the pressure must be reduced.
Use of safety glasses and body protection is required for the use of this kit.

- High pressure regulator assembly (reduces 3600 psi down to 110 psi)
