1000 Gallon Tank Training Center Props

The 1st, The Original, There’s nothing else like it!!!

Someone asked, “Why did you build your worktable so stout”? So I can put whatever I want on it!!!

Most training centers will build a burn prop, use multiple cylinders and an assortment of other tanks to have the ability to practice with their assortment of propane valve and adapters. And all of those take up real estate at you training center.

My goal for these is to provide a single tool that will allow local jurisdictions practice with their response tools and conduct liquid and vapor connections and flaring operations with one prop that can be quickly purged, repaired if need and then get right back to training. So what do I mean by “repaired if needed”? Have you ever put a valve or adapter on a tank and something fails and the only way to reclaim your valve is to empty the tank? What if you could shut off the source, fix the problem, get right back to training. That’s just one of the advantages of this system.

The one pictured here is going to the Portland (Indiana) Fire Department. At one of our district fire instructor meetings, I told everyone about a new product that I planned to create. Since Portland Fire already had a 500 gallon donated for their training center, and I needed to work out my design, it seemed like a good way to accomplish both of our goals.

This new training center tank prop has a fully functional liquid and vapor systems, is capable of water injection operations and have a live burn valve on the top. Once delivered we’ll put it through it’s paces, verify it’s functionality and then production will begin on the next ones. We already have a few on order.

As you can imagine, using used tanks bring multiple issues that new tanks don’t have. Obviously they must be purged of all propane and made safe for cutting. If it has propane heavies in it, it must be recovered and disposed of properly. once cut open it must be sand blasted inside and out. All of the used valving must be replaced with new components.

For these reasons we will be using new 1000-gallon tanks from now on.

With this only being a 500 gallon tank we were limited on space and couldn’t add everything we wanted. Future versions will also have a Multi-Valve, a freeze patch prop that can double as a second live fire trainer and a 3rd liquid withdrawal valve that has purposely been made to leak so that the students can experience and learn from what happened in Ghent WV in a “safe” setting.

As I said, “The 1st, The Original, There’s nothing else like it!!!”
