Description

The “Propane Cap-N-Seal Kit” is designed to provide fire units on scene with SOMETHING to work.

On Saturday January 30th 2021 I received a call from a local dispatch center in reference to a propane leak, I told them to have the first arriving unit call me. Long story short they had a motor fuel tank that was leaking from the fill valve when the hose was detached. The IC asked “what should we do?” My response was, “reattach the hose and I’ll be in route.” Once on scene, the hose was removed and a Fill Valve Adapter was installed, incident over. They waited for well over 1-hour for me but it only took 2 minutes to fix the problem because I had the right tool for the job. As a result of this incident it brought to light something that happens way to often. First arriving units arrive on scene on what’s a simple problem with nothing to work with, all to often a simple full pressure cap could be put on the tank and the leak would be contained.

The “Propane Cap-N-Seal Kit” provides arriving units multiple options to cap and/or seal many types of small propane leaks until it can be fixed properly or rendered safe in another location.

Is it a HazMat call, YES, but just like a gasoline or a diesel fuel spill we deal with propane on a fairly regular basis. If your grill tank at home is leaking, are you going to call out the local HazMat team, the answer in probably “NO”.   As a private citizen nine times out of ten if it’s a leak you can’t stop by just closing the valve, you’ll deal with it and emergency services will never know it happened.   As a responder if you’re called and it’s something as simple as capping a leak that could render the incident safe why wouldn’t you?   Call out a full HazMat Team response if they’re needed, but if it’s something as simple as screwing on a cap, then go to the next step. Get your people back in service quicker with this kit.

This kit has been designed to provide BASIC sealing and capping equipment for the company level response.
