Propane Flare Kit Overview
The 1/2″ Propane Flare Kit, previously known as the Small Cylinder Flare Kit, was designed to be compact enough to carry on almost any rig while still giving fire departments and emergency responders a practical way to flare propane tanks and cylinders.
This propane flare kit can be used with tanks that have POL or QCC Type 1 connections as delivered. From 1-pound disposable bottles and larger containers, the kit provides responders with a portable flaring option for propane emergency response situations.

Small Cylinder and Tank Flaring Uses
Although this kit is small enough to fit in a case, it is built for real-world propane flaring operations. The 1/2″ flare is designed for propane jobs that do not require full 1-inch flow capacity but still need reliable equipment to help empty cylinders or reduce tank levels.
This flare has been used on scene to flare down a 1,000-gallon tank from 100% to 80% in less than 1 hour, helping clear the scene and return operations to normal before some regional Haz-Mat teams could arrive.
Connection Options
The 1/2″ Propane Flare Kit provides several connection options for emergency response and training operations.
- POL connection
- QCC Type 1 connection
- Standard 1 3/4″ Male ACME connection
Certified Propane Hose
The kit now ships with a certified 25-foot propane hose. The hose is manufacturer assembled and tested, rated for liquid and vapor propane use, and has a 350 psi working pressure.
20 lb. Cylinder Flare Test
During testing, a 20 lb. cylinder was filled to approximately 80–85% using the spit gauge. The cylinder was inverted and the test began at 16:30. It took 3 minutes and 25 seconds to empty the tank of all accessible liquid, which equals approximately 1.3 gallons per minute.
As expected, frost did not appear on the tank until the liquid propane was removed and vaporization began. Frost appeared approximately 1 inch up from the bottom of the inverted tank due to the length of the OPD valve protruding into the cylinder. The cylinder continued to produce vapor until the remaining liquid converted to vapor.
